Searching for Something
Isaiah’s prophecy, written 700 years before the birth of Christ, told that the coming Messiah would be a “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, and Prince of Peace.” At the time of the birth of Christ in the first century, the Jews were under the oppressive thumb of the Roman empire. The political situation was dismal. The religious leaders were carnal. Life was difficult and painful, so they were praying, “God deliver us!” They wanted the Messiah to come and take down their enemies, restore their national greatness, and make their lives better. What they really wanted was this “Mighty God” to give them political and physical deliverance; Jesus of Nazareth didn’t seem to fit the picture. Most people today are still looking for someone or something to take away their problems and make their lives better as their “Wonderful Counselor.” A relationship with Christ does bring joy, peace, and a host of other things, but He came primarily to bring a spiritual deliverance as Mighty God.
God doesn’t want to just give you wisdom for your decisions. He doesn’t want to just help you work through relationships. He doesn’t want to just help you understand what to do with your finances or raise your kids. He says I am Almighty God. I want to powerfully, & supernaturally intervene in your life. He says, “I have come to rescue you and transform your life.” As you face a Christmas season filled with obstacles and challenges, what impossibility is looming large in your life?
What problem have you been trying to solve on your own? Jesus Christ has come to us as Mighty God. He is for you and able to do far above what you can ask or think.
Immanuel – God is with us! Press On, Pastor Brian
