Religion Vs. Biblical Christianity
Human beings are religious by nature. God created us with the desire to reach out to something beyond ourselves - namely Himself. The enemy of man, Satan, understands this very well! He has worked hard to push humans toward "religion" to fill that void. Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians that Satan is disguised as an angel of light and his servants disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. He works tirelessly to plant seeds of doubt, and confusion, spawning false religions the world over.
One of the primary objections to Christianity is the idea that Jesus is the only way of salvation. There’s an unspoken rule in our politically correct society that you don’t tell people that their religion is
wrong, and certainly don’t say anything that would imply that your belief system is superior to someone else’s.
The truth is, every religious belief system other than biblical Christianity is an attempt made by humanity to save
itself without the help of the true and living God. Saving mankind is something that only Jesus Christ can do. Scripture calls humanity’s rebellious attempt at salvation the "broad way that leads to destruction", which, tragically, many will follow.
In Acts 4, Peter and John find themselves rejoicing in the miracle of healing the lame man one minute and accosted by the religious elite the next for their unauthorized teaching about Jesus. They didn’t reject the testimony of Peter and John because they couldn’t believe it – but that they wouldn’t believe it. All of the evidence was against them and yet they became more entrenched in their opposition to the truth. They needed to protect their positions of influence and power at all costs.
Not much has changed through the centuries. Satan is still pushing people to religion and away from the One true God. This means the mission field is wide open. Are you willing to embrace the implications of Jesus being the only way? Have you been silent when you need to stand up? Ask God to give you confidence and boldness to be His voice today.
