Questions about the Future
Since the beginning of time people have been trying to figure out the future. In ancient days kings had diviners, prophets, soothsayers – people who would read the entrails of animals to discern coming events. People are still longing for a good look into the future. They are craving some king of security and control over their destiny.
The Bible is a book of prophecy. It has over one thousand prophecies, of which about five hundred have already been fulfilled down to the minutest detail. With this kind of proven track record of 100 percent accuracy, we can confidently believe the rest will be fulfilled exactly as predicted.
Daniel said, ‘Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to Him. It is he who changes the times and the epochs; He removes kings and establishes kings; He gives wisdom to wise men and knowledge to men of understanding. It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him (2:20-22).
Every honest person looks at what’s happening around them and can’t help but see that there is sickness in our society and the prognosis isn’t good. Religious persecution continues to intensify, threat of war in the Middle East, internal civil war, and a deliberate attempt to suppress Christianity from all areas of public discourse.
Jesus said, “See to it that you are not frightened for these things must take place, and it is not yet the end” (Matt. 24:6). He wanted people to be alert and aware, but not afraid. The predictions of all these birth pangs are God’s way of helping those who trust Him prepare for what lies ahead. God wants His people to have hope in Him!
