Life Adrift

Writer's picture: Brian RichardBrian Richard

Have you experienced something that is cherished and extraordinary that, over time, just becomes ordinary? It can often happen in relationships. People can slowly drift apart over time. The truth is, relationships don’t just suddenly have problems – it’s been a slow fade – there’s been nothing happening for a long time.

The same is true in your relationship with the Lord. When you first come to Christ, everything is new and exciting; you’re learning, growing, and attending every church function you can.  But slowly, over time, If you’re not careful, your walk with the Lord will become common and ordinary…it will fade. You don’t place the same value on the relationship as you once did.

The Book of Malachi is both candid and contemporary. The people of God have drifted into a position of neglect and apathy. From worship to marriage and money, they were making a half-hearted effort to appease God, and He was not having it.

It takes work! Salvation is a free gift. You cannot earn it or pay for it. You can only accept it freely. But it cost God the life of His beloved Son. Once you accept such a precious gift, it demands everything you have in response. When you recognize that you are not your own, you were bought with a price, and that all that you have has been freely given to you by God, how can you hold back anything from Him?

Spend some time this week evaluating your life coordinates. By that, I mean seriously evaluating your relationship with God. Are you slowly drifting away or firmly tied to Him as your anchor? If you're drifting, purpose through prayer and discipline to make your way back!

We are here for you to help in any way we can.
